Christmas, Christmas, Christmas! Yes, you’ve been hearing it for six months, and finally we have arrived at December, home to one of the most popular days of the year (though still a bit behind National Popularity Day).
The colorful lights, the festive tunes and X-mas cheer abounds, and kids crying on Mall Santa’s lap are all awaiting us eagerly.
……oh yeah, and then there’s gifts, or something……
Just kidding! We all love picking out that perfect gift for someone, to watch them open it up and grin like a big ol’ doofus (the Doofus Smile is a great part of the holiday as well.)
If you’re straining your brain trying to figure out what to get them for Christmas, here are 11 great gift ideas that both you and your car will absolutely adore:
1. Trailer Hitch Hammocks
Our cars and trucks are some of the most useful things we can bring when we go tailgating.
Acting as carrier of all of our tailgating provisions, seats for when we run out of chairs, and for some, the occasional truck-bed-dance-floor. But for those with a trailer hitch on your car, you can get one more use out of it: hammock chairs!
Yes, these hammock-style seats attach to your trailer hitch and allow for the ultimate in relaxation, without all the hassle of figuring out how to set it up (after a few tailgate beverages, a little “Macgyver-ing” can turn into a lot of damages.)
2. Dog Console Car Seats
We love our pets dearly; they give us mountains of enjoyment and affection, and only ask for a small amount in return, namely: food, water, and expensive shoes to nibble on.
Yet when we go for car rides with our pets, they get a bit nervous not being able to sit on your lap, or even close to you. This can lead to distractions, accidents, and car hair infesting every nook and cranny of your car (those poor crannies.)
Luckily, with doggy console car seats, your cat/small dog can pop a squat right next to you, safely and securely.
For those with bigger dogs, we recommend hooking them up to a sled and exploring the rugged North.
It seems around Christmas time I always seem to find the coolest gadgets and gizmos for cars; this year was no different.
Automatic is a device that plugs into your car and sends a ton of vehicle-specific information to your smart phone or computer.
It will give you tips on how to improve fuel economy based on how hard you accelerate or brake, find your car, alert authorities if you get in an accident, check engine lights, and engages the flux capacitor in your vehicle.
For those that drive a lot and are always looking for ways to save on gas, this nifty little gizmo might be just what you’re looking for.
4. Drift Ghost-S Action Cam
Yes, yes, we know: The Fast and The Furious films make us want to hop into our cars and rip turns like a dirty stranger (not sure what that means, but I bet that’s what we feel like.) Wouldn’t it be cool to see that wicked slaloming from multiple angles?
The Drift Ghost-S Action Cam is a handy, portable device attaches to pretty much anything: cars, helmets, bikes, cats, babies, buffalo, pizza delivery trucks, ice cream trucks, big rig trucks carrying pizza delivery trucks, eagles, hippos, teachers, mailboxes, junk mail, and slices of pizza.
5. Jump-N-Carry Car Battery Jump Starter
Nestled comfortably in this list of really neat ideas is something that is actually quite useful and, to be honest, necessary for most drivers.
How many times have we gone to start our car in the winter and the battery…..did nothing? Maybe one of our kids left the light on (so his stuffed penguin didn’t get scared in the car), or maybe it’s just REALLY, REALLY COLD.
Able to jump your battery without the assistance of another vehicle can come in handy, even more so if you’re on a long trip out in the middle of nowhere and would rather not ask the 6″7 gentleman with the eye patch and the gigantic scar on his cheek for help.
6. Pioneer AVH-4000NEX
Let’s face it: some of us have reeaaally old cars–whether for financial or nostalgic purposes–and must make do with them and their less-than-modern features (Hey guys, I just got the newest Pitbull album on cassette! Let’s blast it!.
But just because we have an old car, that doesn’t mean we can’t spice things up a little. The Pioneer AVH-4000NEX is essentially a stereo head unit that connects to your radio and allows you to interact with your smart phone.
Things like navigation, text messages, and music from your iPhone are presented on a beautiful touch screen display, giving your Ford Pinto all the swag it deserves.
7. Eureka Easy Clean Handheld Vacuum
Now I know what you’re thinking: “really? A vacuum? You tarnished the epic quality of this list with something as bland and mundane as a vacuum?” Well pump the brakes there, Chief, because this one is a great idea.
Winter brings with it two things: a lot of slush, salt, and grime to dirty our carpets, and a bitter cold that saps any motivation we might have to clean it with a shopvac.
With the Eureka Easy Clean Handheld Vacuum, you can make clean-up a breeze in the comfort/heat of your car. Now you have no excuse for letting that puddle of Cheerios loiter in your backseat until spring (if you have a really good excuse though, please submit it in the comments below!)
8. USB Thermo-Electric Cooler and Warmer
Living on this planet as long as I have, I have been exposed to a truth that, frankly, may shock you: It gets really hot, and really cold here. This can have devastating effect on our lives, in the sense that no one likes warm soda or cold coffee (iced coffee is different and you know it!)
This handy device connects via USB to a car port, your laptop, wherever there is an available slot, and keeps your drinks cool or warm. Now that 90 degree summer cruise can be a bit easier as you crack open the fridge and pull out an ice cold drink…..is it summer yet?
9. Flux Capacitor USB Car Charger
Speaking of flux capacitor…..
A great gift for those that grew up with Back To The Future, or those that need a car charger, this is the best of both worlds. And don’t worry, it won’t overload your phone with 1.21 gigawatts…….OR WILL IT???
(Seriously, it won’t.)
Spitballing off the very cool Pioneer device is one that takes it a bit further. AppYourCar is a device that allows you to mount your smartphone on your dash and cycle through your various apps, whether that be music, text messaging, Farmville (people still play that, right?), and more.
The best part? You can control it all with a tiny joystick that fastens right on your steering wheel, so there’s no fumbling around dangerously for it.
We love our smartphones, but we do not love being pulled over for tinkering around with it. AppYourCar lets you continue your tinkering, safely and securely.
11. Alcosense Digital Breathalyser Lite
The LaFontaine Automotive Group cares about you and your family; that sense of community is the biggest reason why we have been so successful over the years. So it’s up to us to make sure you’re satisfied, and safe.
With all the work parties and holiday gatherings, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll imbibe an adult beverage or two to celebrate the season. We get it. But we also want to see you again, and again, and again; and that means practicing safe driving habits.
The Alcosense Digital Breathalyser Lite will let you know if you’re safe to drive, or if you should hand the keys over to a DD. Remember, safe fun is good fun!
