Archives For Dodge

On a windy July 1st day, the LaFontaine family and the Hall family signed the paperwork for the sale of Hall Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram to become LaFontaine Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Fenton.

The LaFontaine family is happy to be an even bigger part of the Fenton community by adding this dealership to the LaFontaine Automotive group of franchises. Our outreach to the community with philanthropic efforts and sharing the Family Deal mission with the Hall customers and employees are high priorities.

The LaFontaine Mission Statement

Build lifelong relationships that connect families, strengthen communities and personalize the automotive experience.

The Family Deal. It’s not just what you get, it’s how you feel.

When flipping though my vintage magazine collection looking for an interesting piece of automotive advertising to share with you, I stumbled across this gem of an ad for the 1978 Dodge Magnum XE.

It’s not the look of the ad that caught my attention, it’s the totally outrageous story that’s being told.

1978 Doge Magnum XE Vintage Magazine Ad

A well dressed man in a tuxedo approaches a beautiful woman at a roulette table (in what I can only assume is a swanky casino) and opens with “Ever been….car-napped my dear?”

Say what!? Seriously, Dodge?

If you were to play out this opening scene today, this guy would probably get maced, punched and promptly escorted off the casino’s premises with him asking himself aloud, “was it something I said?”.

But apparently in 1978, the appropriate way for this young lady to react is to say “Car-napped? How intriguing!” /facepalm

So now that I’ve set the scene, see how the story ends in this riveting piece of advertising, straight out of Mad Men, for the ’78 Dodge Magnum XE.

A vehicle is usually the second most expensive item we’ll ever purchase in our lifetime. While getting The Family Deal on a new car is great, sometimes we tend to forget about the other costs associated with owning a new vehicle.

Things like financing, insurance, gas, state fees, regular maintenance and vehicle depreciation add to the overall cost of ownership of a vehicle.

And if you’re like me and not a fan of the math, the vast amount of numbers to crunch can become overwhelming.

That’s where Kelley Blue Book’s 5-Year Cost to Own Awards come in to play. KBB has done all the legwork and calculated the cost-to-own on all vehicle models for 2015.

Now that the hard work is done, you can take your time and browse the list of vehicles with the lowest 5-year cost of ownership listed below.

Let’s face it, probably more than half of us who tuned in to watch the Patriots take on the Seahawks in Super Bowl 49 were doing so primarily to be entertained by the commercials.

In years past, automakers gobbled up advertising slots like Malcom Butler gobbles up ill-advised passes from Russel Wilson – often times accounting for 25% or more of all commercials that air during the game.

Super Bowl XLIX 49 Car Commercials

This year however, only a handful of automakers shelled out the big bucks to reach Super Bowl viewers – with big names like Ford, General Motors, Honda and Volkswagen sitting this one out.

But for those automakers who did air commercials during the game, it seems they spent their 4.5 million dollars for 30 seconds of air time wisely.

If you missed the spots during the game or want to watch them again, here are the Super Bowl Commercials that aired from BMW, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Kia, Lexus, Mercedes, Nissan and Toyota.

By now you may have heard about the massive Takata Airbag Recall that is affecting millions of vehicles in the U.S. from over a dozen manufacturers.

When the news hit, our customers started calling and stopping by our service departments to see if their vehicle was affected by this recall.

Takata Airbag Recall

Because of the increased awareness, I put this FAQ together to help you determine if your vehicle is affected by the recall and also let you know what next steps, if any, you should take.

Let’s start by taking a look of the vehicles known to be a part of the Takata Airbag Recall according to the NHTSA:

Here’s the reality when it comes to the vehicles our teenagers drive. Too often, budget takes precedence over safety.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting parents don’t care about their children’s safety. Of course they do. Probably more so than their own.

12-Safe-Used-Cars-For-Teens

That being said, a recent study conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) found that more than half of all used cars purchased for teenage drivers were 2006 or earlier model year vehicles.

Also, the study found that two-thirds of teenagers who drove a vehicle already in the household were driving models from 2006 or earlier.

What Changed After 2006?

I know what you’re thinking. “What is it about cars from 2006 and earlier that make them less safe?”

The fact is that vehicles from 2006 and earlier aren’t likely to have safety features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Side Airbags – both proven in their ability to help keep drivers and passengers of all ages safe and sound.

Electronic Stability Control (sometimes referred to electronic stability program, stabilitrak or vehicle stability program) is a technology that improves a vehicle’s stability by detecting and reducing loss of traction.

When ESC detects loss of steering control, it automatically applies the brakes to help “steer” the vehicle where the driver intends to go. Braking is automatically applied to wheels individually, such as the outer front wheel to counter oversteer or the inner rear wheel to counter understeer.

A pretty impressive technology and I’m sure if you had the choice, you’d prefer your children were driving a vehicle that came with some form of ESC, right?

Once a feature that was mostly found on European Luxury cars, the technology quickly trickled down to all automakers by the mid-2000’s.

It became such an effective technology in preventing accidents, that in 2008 some form of Electronic Stability Control was mandated to be a standard feature on all vehicles weighing under 10,000 pounds.

Budget AND Safety

As a parent, we should never have to choose between budget and safety. Continue Reading…

We’re living in a world where technology is rapidly evolving and converging every single day.

New ground-breaking technologies are being released and our lives are irrevocably changed, even if we don’t realize it at the time.
