August is quickly approaching, which means parents will soon be celebrating their favorite holiday: Back To School Time! Yes, this magical time of the year means parents will be shopping for every notepad, pencil sharpener, and any other supplies their child needs to stay out of the house all day. For parents with college students, the jubilation of kids leaving the nest might be met with the stress and anxiety of worrying about what vehicle they’ll be driving; don’t worry, we got you covered.
Below are some great vehicle choices and accessories for your college bound kids:
Vehicles with Auto Start/Stop Technology
College students, like all of us, are on a budget. And it can be difficult staying within monetary confines, especially with the tough choices one faces up at school (bud light or busch light?) Parents can help keep money in their child’s pocket by getting them a vehicle with auto start/stop technology. When they come to a stop, the engine shuts off while other systems remain running. When the brake is released to press the gas pedal, the engine turns back on. This can amount to quite a lot in fuel savings, especially on a college campus with lots of stop and go traffic. Many manufacturers offer this technology such as GM, Ford, Honda and more.
Electric Vehicles/Hybrid Vehicles
Taking the benefits of gas savings to the next level, electric and hybrid vehicles can be an incredible investment depending on the situation. Similar to vehicles with the start/stop technology, electric/hybrid cars find their value the highest while in stop and go traffic. There is a requirement for on-campus charging stations for electric vehicles (hybrid vehicles can rely on gas for a time, so the need isn’t as crucial) but with many campuses showing EV support, that isn’t too much of an issue. Manufacturers like Chevrolet, Nissan, Volkswagen and others provide both electric and hybrid vehicles so you have your pick of the litter when it comes to picking peak petrol performers.
Automatic Pro Car Adapter
Let’s be honest: not everyone’s child is a mechanic (and if they are, well hot dog). So when they’re driving around campus and a check engine light pops up, there’s a good chance they’re gonna panic and call Mom and Dad to figure out what’s going on. With the Automatic Pro Car Adapter, your child plugs a device underneath the dash, and from there can access data about the vehicle; in addition, a vehicle locator, emergency roadside assistance, and other features are available with the app. The device may not fix the vehicle for you, but you’ll at least be able to diagnose the situation so your child can focus on their parties-er, studies.
Beatit Power Bank and Jump Starter
Whether your kid is coming back home from college for a weekend of parental love and groceries, or just driving home from after-school practice, there are a myriad of things that can happen to their car. A bear could jump out in the road and try and eat them. A deer could jump out in the road and try and eat them (crazy deer) or, quite possibly, their battery could die when they stop for gas in the middle of nowhere. Now, your child can try and ask a stranger for a quick jump, but what if no one is around? What if the stranger is a bear? You can save your child and yourself a headache with the Beatit Power Bank and Jump Starter. This portable acts as both a jump starter (with safety measures to prevent over-jumping) as well as a quick charger for their phone. Now your child can make it from Point A to Point B without battery worry (those bears, on the other hand…)
Hudway Portable Heads Up Display
The attention span of a child is like spring in Michigan: they might be focused on the road one second, then all of a sudden BOOM! SNOWFALL IN JUNE! While I may be exaggerating about the snow (not really), kids find themselves constantly looking away from the road due to a phone call, navigation directions, or other adolescent distractions. With a portable heads up display, things like phone calls and navigation are displayed right above the steering wheel, giving your child a view of both the road and their phone’s display.
