On September 1, 2015 the LaFontaine Family was honored to join over 1,000 Huron Valley School Staff Members for the “We Are Huron Valley” kick-off to the 2015-16 school year.
Huron Valley Schools’ Superintendent Jim Baker welcomed back the assembled teachers, bus drivers, secretaries, custodians, paraprofessional and lunch supervisors.
Those who gathered at the Lakeland High School fieldhouse were excited to attend this event not only because of its high energy nature, but also because a few lucky teachers were going to be presented with some outstanding awards.
Kristin Blanchard of Muir Middle School and Isaac Perry of Lakeland HIgh School, were each awarded $1000 and $2000 respectively to be used for classroom teaching supplies. To top it all off, Barb Johnson of Highland Elementary was presented the keys to a 2015 GMC Terrain for two years courtesy of LaFontaine Cadillac Buick GMC!
All three winners were the 2015 nominees for Oakland County Teacher of the Year through Huron Valley Schools.
In addition to those awards, the entire staff was acknowledged for their contributions and some received prizes ranging from spirit wear, gift cards and even mini-grants from the Huron Valley Educational Foundation.
As a part of the kick-off, the District nominated a support staff member to Oakland Schools for the Betty Champion Award which acknowledges the contributions that support staff members make daily. Diane Flora, office coordinator at White Lake Middle School, was this year’s nominee.
On behalf of the LaFontaine Family, we want to thank the Huron Valley School District for allowing us to be a part of their special day. Building lifelong relationships and strengthening the community are part of the LaFontaine’s overall mission and we look forward to supporting the Huron Valley Schools in the years to come.
