LaFontaine Automotive Group Acquires Dwyer and Sons Subaru

LaFontaine Automotive Group —  April 29, 2014 — 5 Comments

On a snowy day in February, Mike LaFontaine Sr. gathered together key employees of the LaFontaine Automotive Group to let them know that he and the family were in final negotiations to purchase Dwyer and Sons Subaru, located in Commerce Township.

“I’m very pleased to let you know that we have an agreement in place with the Dwyer family to purchase Dwyer & Sons Subaru in Commerce Township. If all goes as planned, the transfer of ownership will take place sometime in April. I can’t tell you how excited we are to expand The Family Deal within the state of Michigan.”

That was two months ago. Today, I’m happy to announce it’s official: LaFontaine Subaru, located in Commerce Township, is the newest addition to the LaFontaine family of dealerships.

Judging by all the smiles I’m seeing, the entire LaFontaine Family is excited that “The Family Deal” is coming to a new area with a new franchise to match in LaFontaine Subaru.

With the addition of the Subaru brand, the LaFontaine Automotive Group now consists of 19 total franchises – 17 of which are unique.

Maureen LaFontaine is looking forward to the opportunity for the team to grow and spread their wings.

“We’re very happy about this expansion and there’s nothing but positive things to say about the Subaru brand. The Family Deal isn’t just a marketing slogan. It’s something we live and breathe every day and our passion for success will keep us moving forward.”

Because of it’s location in Commerce Township, LaFontaine Subaru of Commerce is centrally located to LaFontaine’s other dealerships in the Dearborn, Highland & Ann Arbor areas – providing a convenient cross-shopping experience for current and new LaFontaine customers.

Ryan LaFontaine announced that Jay Puzio, the current General Sales Manager of LaFontaine Nissan, will have now oversee the operations of the newest Subaru dealership in Michigan as well.

“Because of the outstanding work he’s done with LaFontaine Nissan, Jay Puzio will now be the General Manager for the Nissan and Subaru franchises. We all agree that Jay’s skills and abilities are a perfect fit for the newest additions to our automotive group.”

Mr. Puzio and the LaFontaine Subaru team have plans to aggressively market new and used Subaru’s in and around the Southeast Michigan area.

The Subaru facility totals over 42,000 square feet which provides the LaFontaine Automotive Group huge potential for future organizational growth.

The entire LaFontaine Family is very excited about this endeavor and they look forward to what the future holds.

  1. Jason great job! Looks like this new dealership could use a Google 360 spin like the rest of them. 😉 Glad to see you guys expanding.

  2. Jason,

Glad to hear. We should be talking about our new 360AutoView Technology for shooting interiors of new / used vehicles in high volume

  3. Jason,

Welcome to another neighborhood. You guys are the best at Social Media…your responsiveness to reviews is awesome.

Dwyer & Sons was one of the very few HONEST auto dealerships that valued integrity and engendered true ‘family’ values… a place one could trust. We bought a ’12 Legacy there and were most impressed, but honestly, the sale to an aggressive, growth and profit oriented auto group is most distressing. Dwyer had a stellar reputation that I fear will be replaced by the slippery, con-artistry that typifies 99.999% of the auto sales industry. I hope my fears are misplaced, but it seems that the truly GOOD things in life that one stumbles upon are soon replaced by those whose interests are focused on the quick dollar rather than treating customers (people) as did the Dwyers, something that brought customerd back again and again.
Our hearts sank when we learned of the change in ownership.

    • Hi Neil & Kathleen,

I want to thank you for sharing your thoughts about the Dwyer family and how you truly appreciated the way they treated you and all their customers.

You certainly aren’t the first to show their appreciation for the level of service that the entire Dwyer family brought to the table each and every day and I hope that one day you’ll feel the same way about us.

I know that one of the reasons the LaFontaine family was interested in acquiring Dwyer Subaru was because both of our companies have very similar and aligned business philosophies.

Being a positive influence in our communities, fostering a family-style work environment, and providing customer service that exceeds expectations are things that all of us who work for the LaFontaine Automotive Group are proud of.

I understand that when there’s a change in ownership, it sometimes creates a sense of uncertainty. Please know that we’re working hard to reach out to all of Dwyer Subaru’s previous customers to let them know that we’re here for them.

I passed along your comment to Ryan LaFontaine, and he was very appreciative of what you had to say. It was important to him that he reach out to you personally, and if you haven’t spoken with Ryan already, you should be hearing from him soon.

If there’s anything we can do for you, please don’t hesitate to connect with us. We’re always just a phone call or email away.

      Thank you!
