Growing The Family: Introducing LaFontaine Ford of Frankenmuth

On May 1, 1980 Mike LaFontaine Sr. purchased his very first car dealership. Exactly 35 years later I’m excited to introduce you to our newest family member, LaFontaine Ford of Frankenmuth.

On a beautiful spring morning in Frankenmuth, the LaFontaine and Galsterer families completed the sale of Galsterer Ford to the LaFontaine Automotive Group.

Introducing LaFontaine Ford of Frankenmuth

For nearly 100 years, the Galsterer Ford dealership has been a very large part of the Frankenmuth community. Taking care of their customers, employees and being good stewards in town was always important to the three-generation family.

As they began to ponder retirement and with none of their next generation interested in the car business, brothers Mike and Robert Galsterer searched for the proper partners as they prepared to turn over the family car dealership to new owners.

The Galsterers were approached by a number of dealers in Michigan, but Mike and Bob insisted on not just selling to anyone,

“The most important thing in this process was to sell the dealership to someone who will take care of our employees, our customers and believe in the legacy built in this town. We have a wonderful city and I believe it to be important to continue that legacy here in Frankenmuth.”

When the LaFontaine family assumes ownership of Galsterer Ford on May 1, local residents and customers will quickly realize just how much both families have in common. Mike Galsterer noted,

“We interviewed a number of interested dealers and we knew we needed the right fit. We feel the LaFontaine’s are the best to carry on our business and be a good match for our community.”

While Mike will retire after the transition is final, Bob Galsterer will stay on for the next three years working in sales and assisting Mike LaFontaine Sr. and his wife, Maureen, and their children, Ryan and Kelley LaFontaine in marketing the dealership to the community.

Mike said that all the staff is staying on and that is the way the LaFontaine family wanted it, as well as the Galsterers.

“That was important to me and to them. I did not want them to come in and wipe out the staff. They will add staff only as growth continues.”

LaFontaine is buying all the property and inventory. Area residents should look for a quick influx of new and used cars and trucks arriving early next month.

The entire LaFontaine family is is excited to a part of the Frankenmuth community. Ryan LaFontaine said,

We are elated to carry on the legacy the Galsterer family has created for the past 97 years. Their family shares our philosophy of treating our employees and customers like family which defines The Family Deal. We look forward to getting active in the Frankenmuth community and growing our footprint to service our customers even better.

LaFontaine Ford of Frankenmuth is located at 504 North Main Street and the LaFontaine family plans to expand and remodel the current facility in the near future.
