High school students are often under many pressures and LaFontaine Subaru is making sure they have an outlet to relax, take a deep breath and reset their minds.
“When we heard from the Greater West Bloomfield Community Coalition on the frightening statistics regarding students feeling suicidal, we knew we needed to try and make a difference,” said Kelley LaFontaine, VP, LaFontaine Automotive Group. “We continuously look for initiatives in our local communities that are aimed at bettering the lives of children. This partnership with West Bloomfield High School is a perfect example of our mission to give back and be a positive influence in the community.”
During a recent event at West Bloomfield High School for the unveiling of the mosaic for the “Be The Change – Students Leading Students” classroom, Lisa Berkey, executive director of the Greater West Bloomfield Community Coalition, approached Kelley and Audrey Ryskamp, business marketing representative at LaFontaine, regarding her concerns about the high school’s mental health survey results.

After some research, they learned of MeditationWorks, a company that focuses on improving your mental health, focus and overall wellness. Their mobile meditation studio is like a food truck… just for your brain!

“LaFontaine Subaru has a longstanding relationship with both the West Bloomfield High School and Greater West Bloomfield Community Coalition, and we decided to step in and support this initiative,” said Audrey.
The program is now live at the high school and has already garnered tremendous feedback from both students and staff. Two 9th grade health classes, approx. 70 students, along with teachers and staff, have already experienced the MeditationWorks mobile unit.
