Archives For North American International Auto Show

When you think October in Michigan, you probably think about the fall colors, decorating pumpkins, and a Detroit Lions season that’s over before it really started. But if you’re in the automotive biz, you also think about the upcoming North American International Auto Show and the North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year Awards.

You see, October is when the independent journalists who ultimately select the North American Car and Truck of the Year release their short list of vehicles that are under consideration for these awards.

Some things in life are worth waiting for, and to me, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma is one of them. With the chance to see it unveiled live at the Detroit Auto Show, I was defiantly impressed.

Like a warm soft-taco shell, the Tacoma’s sleek new sheet metal lends the truck a stylish profile that’s loaded with accouterments.

Take one quick look and you’ll agree that this Taco(ma) certainly does look delicious (five bucks says you’re going to eat tacos next chance you get!).

Taco puns aside, it’s been almost 11 years since the Tacoma got a redesign, and the timing of it couldn’t have been better.

The worlds best selling mid-size pickup truck for the past 10 years is about to face some stiff competition from the recently introduced Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon.

Anticipating an all-out battle royal for their long reigning title of “worlds best”, Toyota stepped up their game to make sure the 2016 Tacoma was ready to take on all challengers.

When the North American International Auto Show (aka The Detroit Auto Show) rolls into town each January, it’s an exciting time for all of us on the FamilyDealBlog.com team.

I mean who wouldn’t love the chance to walk countless miles in uncomfortable shoes while shooting videos and writing articles on some of the coolest cars in the world?

This year, however, was a little different because for the first time we were granted credentials so we could attend the Press Preview alongside the rest of the mainstream media.

I know what you’re thinking. You? Press? Ha! I know, I was just as surprised as you.

That being said, one of the vehicles I was looking forward to seeing and getting to know was the all-new 2016 Cadillac CTS-V.

Needless to say, after catching Cadillac’s press conference and speaking to Chief Executive Engineer, Dave Leone, I was left impressed with what the future holds for Cadillac.

The Truck Wars have been well underway for the past few years and there are no signs of the battle ending any time soon.

With ever evolving offerings from Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Nissan, Ram and Toyota, the vehicles in the highly competitive pickup truck market are constantly slugging it out for segment domination.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret…

Right around the time our digital marketing team was getting ready to cover the 2014 North American International Auto Show, I began to hear whispers that maybe (just maybe) we’d adding a Subaru franchise to our family of dealerships in the near future.

So as we made our way downtown, I kept reminding myself to keep my eyes open for something cool and fun from Subaru that we could add to our media library. You know, something to have on hand to share just in case.

It wasn’t long after we got done shooting a video on the North American Car and Truck of the Year that I wandered towards the Subaru exhibit…and stopped dead in my tracks.

There, standing confidently in front of me, was quite possibly one of the coolest looking cars that I’ve ever seen.

Painted a vibrant shade of blue and adorned with gold alloy wheels, I realized I was standing face-to-grill with the 2015 Subaru WRX STI.

This particular model is known as the 2015 Subaru WRX Launch Edition, and all I could say was “wow”.

Memories of the North American International Auto Show are still fresh with us (and they were pretty darn great!). Now that the pizzazz of the concepts and the pristine wonder of the new vehicles have come and gone, it’s time for the accolades; or as we should call it, the Chevrolet Praise Awards.

Chevrolet won the 2014 North American Car of the Year award with the beautiful new Corvette Stingray, as well as North American Truck of the Year with its rugged Silverado.

With so many people speculating on how Chevy managed to win both awards among such fierce competition, we sent our Digital Marketing Team downtown to investigate just how Chevy Rocked the Auto Show.

Chevy took a risk that paid off

The expression “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” comes to mind when thinking of the transformation of the Corvette Stingray. With such a popular and classic car loved in its current state, some might find breaking tradition to be a sign of trouble.

Well, the thrill and spectacle of the North American International Auto Show has come and gone and boy, did they deliver!

From the concept cars, to the various paths that automotive companies are trekking for the future, to the roasted almonds (I had about three bags), everything about the Auto Show made for a wonderful experience.

The Nissan Sports Sedan Concept on display at NAIAS

I did not choose to fill this space with my love for roasted almonds (no matter how tasty they may be) but rather to talk about one of the more interesting concept pieces on display: The Nissan Sport Sedan Concept.

When I first saw the teaser for the new concept, I was pleasantly surprised. Nissan has been slowly doing away with the clunky box-styles of yesteryear to make way for sleek designs, and the concept picture oozed fluidity. Everything from the boomerang-styled headlights to the floating-v grille suggested this was a vehicle that would emphasize curves and speed. I had high hopes for the concept in person.

Needless to say, those hopes were not disappointed.
